Are you looking

8th September

Are you looking for a home in Scottsdale, Arizona? Scottsdale has earned a reputation as an expensive community, one of affluence and sophistication. Unfortunately many people firmly believe that these traits come with a hefty price tag. Although this is often true, you may be surprised by your options.

Maybe you haven’t figured out how much your can afford for a home. Some prospective buyers deliberately stay away from Scottsdale because they think prices are out of their reach, while others don’t realize when they are in over their heads.

How exactly do you figure out how much you can afford for a mortgage? The formula many mortgage agents formerly suggested was that home owners’ plan that their mortgage payment (including taxes and insurance) be about 30% of the total gross monthly earnings.

But times have changed and this formula doesn’t always work for all buyers.

‘Dibbing’ Phenomenon Set To Revolutionise the Online Auction

Market Wire, September, 2010

A revolutionary new auction site in which items start at their listed market price and become cheaper has been launched.

Known as ‘dibbing’, it works by inviting visitors to purchase credits (‘dibs’) at 50 pence each. A dib can be used to reveal the current price of an item. The current price is displayed for 10 seconds, whilst the dibber decides if they want the item or not. Every time an item is dibbed, the price goes down.

Half retail platform, half fun game, Dibbing.com is already proving popular with users:

“At first I was a bit sceptical” says one happy dibber, “but the system works really well. I got a digital camera at half the original price, and that was on my very first go, with the free credits I got for signing up. I couldn’t believe it!”

“Knowing the prices are only getting lower makes it a really exciting experience” he continues.

Launched by Sit-Up Shopping, dibbing.com stocks a range of the latest products, from Apple iPads to Gucci handbags

Organic Air Fresheners

Organic Air Fresheners by Isabella
in Business / Management (submitted 2010-09-06)

Organic, essential oil based air freshener is a great way to get the benefits that aromatherapy has to offer. They are easy to make and they don’t contain any synthetic ingredients, which can cause irritation in some sensitive people. Perhaps it’s the scent of a forest or a citrus orchard. Whatever scent you like, you can find essential oils to create those feelings.

We all know how important the sense of smell is to us every day. It tells us a lot of different things, from what food we’ll be eating and if it will taste good, or what season it is based on the smell of flowers.

Smell is also essential for our emotional and mental well being. Smell affects mood more acutely than any other as it is the only sense that has a direct line to the brain. Smell is linked directly to the brain through the limbic system. The limbic system is made up of the amygdala, where we process anger and aggression, the septum pellucidum, which is where we process good feelings and the pocampus, which regulates how much attention we pay to each of those.

Because smell is linked directly to the emotional center of the brain, it can trigger memories and emotions more acutely than any other sense, which is what makes aromatherapy so powerful. Many of us find certain smells relaxing or uplifting or find that certain smells remind us of certain times in our lives. This is especially true in our own homes. How many times have you found that the smell of a favorite dish cooking will remind you of some family get together or holiday? The same is true of air fresheners, and we aren’t talking about the synthetic, overly perfumed variety you find at the supermarket.

To make these organic air fresheners, simply combine 120 drops of essential oil with 4 ounces of purified water. Be sure to store your mixture in a safe plastic or metal spray bottle, as some plastics can leech chemicals into your mix and that isn’t good.

Any essential oil will work for making air fresheners, but here are some suggestions for possible combinations. Many hospitals and care homes are now using the citrus scents to remove the “hospital” smell and help patients feel better.

o For citrus scents- Lemon, Orange, Grapefruit, Lime, Mandarin, Bergamot, and Patchouli
o For forest scents-Spruce, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Pine, Cajeput, Cedarwood, and Spearmint
o For a floral scent- Rose, Jasmine, Lavender, Geranium, Clove, Orange and Petitgrain

Give these combinations a try or mix up some of your own. Keep a journal of your creations and how you feel about them. That way you’ll know what you want to make again and what you don’t.

In 1995, Deborah Gez created Moriah Herbs, and brought more than 30 years of experience to the field of herbal medicine. Moriah Herbs is a leader in aromatherapy, essential oils and herbal healing.

New research recently published by the US online journal Environmental Health has found “significant” links between breast cancer and cleaning products, air fresheners and mold removers. The survey, by the Silent Spring Institute in Newton, Massachusetts was based on interviews with 787 women with breast cancer and 721 healthy women, all aged between 60 and 80. “Women who reported the highest combined cleaning product use had a doubled risk of breast cancer compared to those with the lowest reported use,” the report states. “Use of air fresheners and products for mold and mildew control were associated with increased risk. To our knowledge, this is the first published report on cleaning product use and risk of breast cancer.”

One positive piece of information to come out of the survey was that the the use of mothballs, pesticides and insect repellents in the home had little impact. But what about the rest? There’s certainly no need to panic and chuck out all your cleaning products or go crazy, eco-home organic everything. It’s only possible to speak in broad, general terms but there are some everyday products sold in the cleaning aisles that I avoid inhaling if at all possible. These are:

1.oven cleaners (I use a non-toxic Magic Sponge instead)

2.carpet cleaners (I use the foam from biological detergent whisked up in a bowl instead)

3.chlorine bleach (except in emergencies; for everyday use I choose non-toxic oxygen bleach)

4.drain cleaners (I use non-toxic Soda Crystals instead)

5.air fresheners (I make my own)

Sometimes it makes sense to use the tough stuff. 3% hydrogen peroxide solution is an excellent non-toxic solution for removing all sorts of stains and works especially well on blood

It means more manufacturing jobs and perhaps delays in any layoffs being planned for those types of goods.

It also means a positive for the Chinese Economy, which is busy trying to strike middle ground, by pleasing its trading partners, financing partners and come to terms with its growing environmental issues and need to allow its currency to right itself properly over the next 2-3 years without breaking their economy in two. Please consider all this in 2006.

The basics of kitesurfing

The basics of kitesurfing by Charles Edwards
in Sports / Extreme Sports (submitted 2010-08-25)

Kitesurfing is fast becoming one of the world’s most elite watersports. It enjoys a global popularity, and nowhere is it more popular than in the Dominican Republic.

The small town of Cabarete, on the north shore of Hispaniola, has become a mecca for kitesurfing. The town has grown in recent years thanks to a boom in Dominican Republic real estate from a sleepy fishing community to an upscale yet friendly tourist center that is all about enjoying life on Bozo beach.

From April to July, trade winds provide a reliable and constant source of wind for kitesurfers in Cabarete. The region is home to several kite surfing championships, and many professionals from the industry have chosen to make Cabarete home. As a result, a strong and vibrant kitesurfing community has grown up in Cabarete – if you want to learn about the sport, this is the place to do it.

While you can rent a rig just about anyplace on the ocean in Dominican real estate, if you’re really serious you’ll have to purchase your own equipment:

Basically, kite surfing involves hooking up to a kite (kind of like a parasail) and using the wind to pull yourself along via a surfboard with clips for securing your feet

Atchison’s sophomore class could be vital

Atchison coach Jim Smith breaks down his team after a recent practice.

ATCHISON, Kan. — Jim Smith enters his 12th season at the helm of the Atchison program, and he’s got himself a situation. Every single position on his squad is up for grabs.

“We haven’t made up our mind on anything yet,” Smith said.

That’s what happens when you lose 13 seniors.

There are just eight seniors this season, but there are plenty of juniors, sophomores and freshmen behind them. Many of the younger players saw great success in middle school, but that doesn’t necessarily translate on the high school level.

“Some of them still think they can outrun everybody,” Smith said

Much like beef ribs. The problem most

7th September

Much like beef ribs.

The problem most people have when it comes to barbequing ribs is either overcooking them, which leads to dry and tough ribs, or not cooking them long enough which can be a potential health hazard. One would guess that that is why most of the time they get overcooked.

There are ways around this problem. You can pre-cook your ribs either by boiling, steaming or slow cooking them in the oven before you put them on the grill. Make sure you pre-season your ribs before using these methods as this will help bring out the flavor in your ribs. Many people boil or steam their ribs with beer which not only adds flavor but also tenderizes the meat making it fall off the bone. You can pre-cook your ribs from anywhere from 1 to 4 hours depending on which method you are using.

Once they have been pre-cooked just throw them on the grill for 5-10 minutes a side and brush on your favorite barbeque sauce. Before you know it you will have perfectly grilled ribs that are ready to eat.

Andrew Bicknell is a barbeque afficianado with a website about barbequing.

LIVE OR RETIRE IN MEXICO: HOW TO LOAN THINGS, RATHER THAN GIVE THEM AWAY

When you retire in Mexico, you don?t want to insult your new friends and neighbors, so here?s what you can do:

1. GIVE ?BUTS?

If you are definitely not going to loan something, you may still want to give a vague yes answer, but avoid setting any specifics. Then when it comes time to loan the item, don?t be home, have your door closed and pretend you are taking a nap, ask the person to come back for it later because you are going to use it that very night to do such-and-such, yadda yadda yadda. Use whatever you can come up with. This is called ?poniendo peros? in Spanish, which means ?giving buts.? It is the tried and true system of saying yes, but creating so many blocks that the other person either tires of asking or realizes you don?t really want to share.
